In order to make your Instagram account private you have to be on your personal account. If your account type is set to be in a Business or Creator account, then first you have to change that in the Settings but if your account is already personal one then you can directly make your account private.
How to Make Business or Creator Account Personal?
- Open your Instagram app on your mobile.
- Tap on your profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen to open your profile.
- On your profile page, click on the three horizontal line at the top right of the screen and it will open your Instagram Settings page.
- Scroll down on settings page and you will see the section “For professionals”.
- Under this section you will see the option “Business tools and control”, click on that.
- Again scroll down and find the option ” Switch account type” and that is going to give the option to either switch to a Business or Creator account, depending on what you have currently or Switch to a Personal account option.
- Click on the Switch to Personal account and you will get the little pop up message saying that you will loose access to your Dashboard, Insight tools and other things that comes with the Business or Professional accounts.
- But, you must be switch to a Personal account if you want to make your Instagram account private, there is no other way.
How to Make Your Instagram Account Private?
- Open your Instagram app on your mobile.
- Tap on your profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen to open your profile.
- On your profile page, click on the three horizontal line at the top right of the screen and Instagram Settings page will open.
- In Settings page scroll down and select “Account Privacy” option, tap to open it.
- You will see the “Private account” option and right side of this you will see one toggle switch. Just toggle it on to enable this private account option.
- Then click on the “Switch to private” button below and your Instagram account will be private.
How to Know your Account is Private?
- You will know that your Instagram account is private, when you see a little lock icon prior to your username.
- Other people who don’t follow will not be able to see the content that you have post and also your followers and following list.
- Those who don’t follow you, they will have to send a request to follow you, which you can approve or denied.
