If you are having a Samsung phone, then there are some Samsung gallery features that you may not be known. Samsung’s Gallery app is more capable than you’d think, but that may not be immediately apparent. Move Items to the Secure Folder

If your Samsung gallery contain photos or videos having sensitive, private, or confidential information, you can move those media items or the entire albums to the Secure Folder. Thanks to the Samsung Knox security platform that comes built into Galaxy devices, you can get extra protection from potential intrusion here. By moving your files into the Secure Folder prevents you from backing them to the cloud. In addition to that if someone tries to access those files via brute force or reset them, then all the contents in that folder will be erased to ensure they don’t get to your sensitive data.

  • To move your item from gallery to a secure folder simply long-press on the image or video you want.
  • Tap on the three-dots menu, and select the option ‘Move to Secure Folder.’
  • Then, verify yourself by scanning your fingerprint or you can type your Lock screen password.

Hide Albums or Group Them Together

If you have an album on your gallery that may contain items you don’t feel comfortable having on display, then you can hide such albums and they don’t appear on the main page. Whenever you want you can also unhide them. If you have too many albums in your gallery, then for better organization you can also group them together by topic. On the main page, you’ll see by default your albums are arranged in a grid view with a row of three. When you Zoom in it will change it to a row of two, and it will turn into a list when you zoom out. When you open album Inside it, you can view items in a row of seven, four, three or see all items in full size.

Edit the Date, Time, and Location of Your Photos and Videos

If there’s a mismatch between the saved and the actual date and time of some media items, then after taking the shot you can edit those media files. But, if they’re sorted based on the date created, then editing this info may also change the position of these items in the album. Similarly, you can also add location to the media where a shot was taken. When you add location it allows you to keep track of your travels and quickly search for relevant shots taken on a particular trip.

  • You can access these options by tapping the Info (i) icon present at the bottom toolbar and choose Edit in the subsequent menu.

Add Album Shortcuts to the Home Screen

If there’s an album on your gallery that you open on a regular basis, then it’s a good idea to add a shortcut to it on your Home screen to quickly access it whenever needed.

On Samsung Gallery, you can change your album cover with an image that you like. This feature is similar to how you can change an album cover in Google Photos.

  • To change an album cover and set a custom cover, you can long-press on your desired album.

  • To do this, first go your gallery and open an album.
  • Select your desired images and tap on the three-dots menu at the bottom.

  • When you’re browsing items inside an album you can also enable Auto play motion photos so that videos, GIFs, reels, and more automatically start playing (without audio). This will help you know instantly which photos are static and which aren’t while browsing.

Hide Content From Automatically Created Stories

Similar to what Google Photos does, by default, the Samsung Gallery app will resurface older photos and videos in the form of stories. Since most of us rarely revisit the shots we take, this is a great feature for reliving old memories. But sometimes, the app can display painful memories and in that case, you can manually add people and pets you don’t want to see photos of. You can also set dates in between which the shots you have clicked will not be used to automatically create stories.
