Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Health Minister Gives Major Update on Ayushman Yojana; Know Details

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling gave a big announcement about Ayushman Yojana on Friday. Health Minister said that the process of IT integration with Ayushman India is going on. Ayushman card is being printed. 3.5 crore people will be involved in this scheme. The former Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) has been renamed as Gopbandhu Jan Aarogya Yojana.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana will be implemented in Odisha from next February instead of BSKY. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Central and State Governments. Currently, while the state government will bear all the expenses in the BSKY scheme, the central government will bear 60 % and the state government will bear 40 % of the cost in the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Ayushman Bharat Yojana 2018 started from 23rd September.

Benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana

  • On the basis of 2011 Socio-Economic Census, disadvantaged poor families have been included in this scheme.
  • Offering paperless, cashless services.
  • Medical facilities are available in 29, 000 government and private hospitals.
  • About 50 crore people in 10.74 crore families are getting medical facilities.
  • Under Ayushman Bharat, Gopbandhu Jan Aarogya Yojana, medical facilities up to Rs. 10 lakhs for women beneficiaries and Rs. 5 lakhs for men.
  • Patients of one state can get medical facilities in affiliated hospitals in all states of the country.
  • States can freely work out the modalities of this scheme.
  • There is no cut-off for family size and no age limit.
  • Girls and senior citizens will also get special benefits in this scheme.
  • Any problem related to this scheme can be redressed through Public Grievance Redressal Mechanism.
  • At the national level, the scheme is being implemented by the National Health Authority (NHO).
  • To implement this in Odisha, the central government has issued a notification on January 13, 2025.
  • 3.5 crore people will be benefited in Odisha.
  • All citizens above 70 years of age will get free medical facilities.
  • Medicines will be available for 15 days after discharge.
  • 1949 types of medical services available.
  • The central government bears 60 % and state governments 40 % of the cost of the scheme, while the states of eastern India bear only 10 percent of the cost.
  • There is no upfront cost to avail this treatment.
  • Each beneficiary will be issued a smart card.
  • Application can be done online.
  • Aadhaar card connection is mandatory for e-KYC.
