BSNL will Cut Off its 19,000 Employees!
The Department of Telecom is planning to implement the second Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) in BSNL. For this, the Telecom Department is seeking approval from the Finance Ministry. The company will reduce the number of employees by 35% through VRS. This is now being considered to strengthen the financial position of the company.
A report has been published in the media about this. However, no clarification has been received from the government or the company. 15,000 crores will be required to implement the VIRS scheme. By this, it is proposed to reduce the number of employees from 18,000 to 19, 000 an official related to the process informed. Now the company is spending 705 crores on employee salaries, which is 38% of the revenue. The company plans to reduce this cost to 5,000. It is said that this proposal will come before the Cabinet after the approval of the Finance Ministry.
In 2024, BSNL’s revenue is Rs 21,302 crores. It has improved compared to the previous period. There are 30,000 non-executive and 25,000 executive employees working in the company. The company introduced its first VRS in 2019. It started from November 4, 2019 and continued till December 31 of the same year. At this time BSNL had 1.5 lakh employees and 78,569 employees received VRS. The government has sanctioned 69 thousand crores in 2019, 1.64 lakh crores in 2022 and 89 thousand crores as the third package to BSNL, which is going through financial crisis. The company is now continuing its efforts to launch 4G, 5G and improve its balance sheet.
