WhatsApp has end-to-end encryption to protect your privacy but if someone has access to your phone, then that doesn’t protect your private conversations. For this WhatsApp has rolled out its Chat Lock feature. You can enable this Chat Lock feature to lock your private conversations which can only be accessed through Face ID or fingerprint, or, if you have neither enabled, access through your phone’s passcode. Additionally, you can not only locked your chat but also you can make it harder to access anyone by hiding it. You can hide your Locked Chat Folder and remove it from your Chat section and nobody will know that your have locked your chat.
If you have joined any private group or having a private chat with someone, then you can lock that chat using this WhatsApp Chat lock feature and also hide that lock folder with secret password.
If you want to lock your WhatsApp chat, then you can use the WhatsApp Chat Lock feature. Using this feature you can not only lock your WhatsApp chat but also you can hide your lock folder and no one will know that you have locked your chat.
How to Lock WhatsApp Chat?
- Open your mobile Play Store and search WhatsApp on the search bar.
- First you need to update your WhatsApp to its latest version.
- Then, open your WhatsApp and your chat section will open.
- From here you can select the chats that you want to lock.
- After select the chat, at the top right corner of the screen you will see three dot menu, click on that and a drop-down menu will appear.
- From the menu select the option Lock Chat.
- After that you can see an option will appear ‘Keep the Chat Locked and Hidden’, you can then click on Continue.
- Then enter your phone lock password or fingerprint and your selected chat will be locked.
- The locked chat will be appear in your main chat section in a folder as Locked Chat.
How to Hide the Locked Chat Folder?
When you lock your chat that will locked in a folder, and appears in your chat section as a Locked Chat. If someone open your WhatsApp, then they will see the lock folder in your chat section and they will know that you have locked your chat. If you don’t want to be in this situation, then WhatsApp give you the another option to hide your lock folder with secret passcode and that will not shown in your chat section.
- First click on your Locked Chat Folder, then enter your phone password or fingerprint lock and your Locked Chat will open.
- Here, you can click on the 3 dot menu present at the top right corner, open it and select the option Chat Lock Settings.
- Then, Hide Lock Chat option will open, toggle on that by tap on it and you will see the option Create Secret Code. Click on the Secret Code and enter a code to hide your lock folder.
- You can set a code that you can remember easily. You can use words or emojis for your secret code and again re-enter the code and click on Done. You hide settings will be enabled.
- When you go back, your Locked Chat Folder will be removed from chat section and keep hidden with a secret code.
How to Search Hidden Locked Chat Folder?
- When you hide your Locked Chat Folder, it will be removed from chat section.
- If you want to open the hidden locked chat folder, then you just have to simply click on that search icon present at the top right corner of the screen.
- From search bar enter your secret code ode that you have set up before and your hidden locked chat folder will open, you can chat from here.
How to Unlock or Unhide your Chat Lock?
- Open the Locked Chat Folder and select the chat you want to Unlock.
- Then, click on the 3 dot menu option at the top right corner of the screen.
- From drop-down menu select the option Unlock Chat.
- Then, enter your phone password or fingerprint lock and you will see the chat you have selected to unlock is vanish from the Locked Chat Folder.
- Go back to your chat section and the unlocked chat you will see in your chat section with other chats.
Unhide Chat Without Using Secret Code
If you hide your Locked Chat Folder with a secret code, but unfortunately you have forgot the code, then don’t worry. WhatsApp introduced another settings, that you can use to unhide your locked chat without secret code.
- To unhide your chat without entering the Secret Code, then go to your chat section.
- Then, click on the 3 dot menu at the top right corner of the screen and select the Settings option.
- From settings select the Privacy option, tap to open it. Scroll down and you will see that option Unlock and Clear Locked Chat.
- If you forgot your secret code, you click on this option and then click on Unlock and Clear. But, after clicking on this option your conversation of that chat will be deleted.
- Click on Unlock and Clear, then enter your phone password or fingerprint lock to verify it, then tap on Ok. Your hidden folder will be back to the main chat section but all the conversation will be deleted on that chat.
