E-KYC Period will About to End for Ration Card; Beneficiary will Not Get Free Ration Without Link

70 lakh beneficiaries in Odisha may be excluded from the ration. November 30 is the last date when the government mandated EKYC for ration and this period is about to end. There are only 10 days in hand and about 70 lakh beneficiary not completed their EKYC so far.

70 lakh Beneficiaries May Excluded from Ration

There are 3 crore 36 lakh 35 thousand 918 beneficiaries for free rice in the state. Out of them, 2 crore 66 lakh have already completed their EKYC so far and 69 lakh 49 thousand beneficiaries have not received EKYC. That means about 70 lakh beneficiaries will not be able to get ration. In this list, the maximum number of 5,42000 is from Ganjam district.

Reasons of Not Completing EKYC

Why so many people have not done EKYC is a big question. However, there are many reasons behind this. Many people have been involved in this philanthropic scheme under the previous government’s harvest and have been reaping the benefits of the scheme. Now there is a fear among them of doing EKYC that they will be caught.

Similarly, many ghost cards were also used. Besides, it is assumed that the EKYC is not covered by the scheme as most of the people in rural areas have gone out to work outside the state. If they fail to link within 30 days, their card will become invalid, which is going to be a big loss for them. Now it remains to be seen whether the government is taking steps for them?
