When you upload photos to the Facebook, it assigns a numerical ID to all the uploaded photos. When you download images from Facebook, the image have that numerical ID as part of the file name by default. You can use this number to find the source of the picture on Facebook. To locate the profile picture of the person who shared it or the person whose profile you are trying to find might be named or tagged in the image, this ID number might use to help you.

  • You just have to right-click the image that you want to search for on Facebook, a Menu will open. Then, select Open in New Tab in Google Chrome.
  • If you are using a different web browser, then you can select View Photo, View Image, or a similar option.
  • Then, search the three sets of numbers separated by underscores in the address bar or file name of the image.
  • Locate the middle string of numbers and that is the ID number you will use on Facebook to find the image.
  • You can just Type or copy and paste this adress “https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=” into your browser’s address bar.
  • Then, paste the ID number of the image after the “=” in the address bar without space.
  • Using this method, you can search for any image, whether it is online or saved image to your own device.
  • Press Enter to go directly to the photo on Facebook and find the profile on which it was posted. If the photo is not public or the owner has blocked you, then the photo might not be viewable due to privacy settings and it might prevent you from accessing the image on a Facebook page.

Reverse Image Search: Facebook and Google Method

  • You can also use reverse image search in Google for a photo posted on Facebook to possibly learn more about who posted it.
  • You can right-click over the image and from menu select Search image with Google.
  • Select Find Image Source from the side panel of Google Lens that displaying possible matches for the photo.

Alternatively, you can use Google Reverse Image search by uploading the image or dragging and dropping it onto the Google Images search page, you can search the image you have downloaded.

  • You can then check the list for Facebook profiles linked to the image.
