Measure Distance in Google Maps

On the Web

• Open your browser and go to the Google Maps (website).
• Go to the place you want to measure the distance from and do right-click on it.
• From the overflow menu, select the option ‘Measure distance’.
• You can then adjust the marker by dragging it to your desired location.
• After that, click on the other location to add a marker and measure the distance. If this location is outside the view, you can either zoom out or using the search bar search the location.
• Inside the “Measure distance” box at the bottom, Maps will show you the distance between the two points.
• By clicking multiple locations, you can add more marker points to measure distance between them.

On Phone

• Open the Google Maps app on your mobile and tap on the location you want to measure the distance from to drop a pin.
• Swipe up to get more options and then select ‘Measure distance’.
• You can go to another location, drop a pin and measure the distance, or you can click on ‘Add point’ to add multiple pins.
• If there are multiple turns or terrain between two points as Google Maps measures the absolute distance between them, which might not be what you’re looking for.

Calculate Area in Google Maps

To measure the overall surface area, you need to add more than three pointers and connect them to form a polygon. Google Maps then show you the exact surface area of the area you’ve marked. You can only do this on web, Google Maps app for Android or iPhone doesn’t have this feature.

• Open your web browser, and go to the Google Maps (website).
• Use the Measure distance option to add multiple markers. You can atleast add 3 points to make a polygon of your desired area.
• Close the polygon by connecting the last point with the first point.
• When dealing with a region of irregular shapes, you have to add several markers to calculate the area more precisely.
• Once you are done, the Total area of the selected region will appear in the “Measure distance” box at the bottom.
