One of the main selling points of Android is the freedom it offers but still, there are some limits. For example, some apps restrict the ability to take screenshots. While this can be frustrating, but there are some ways to bypass these restrictions. If you are also facing the same problem, and your Android can’t able to take screenshot of some apps, then go through this article. In this article you are going to know how you can take screenshot on Android when the app doesn’t allow it.
Why Some Apps Restrict Screenshots?
Be it privacy or security, there’s always some sense behind the restriction. Developers restrict screenshots for some reason. Most of the banking and payment apps block screenshots for security reasons. Chrome browser blocks screenshots in its Incognito tabs for privacy reasons. To curb piracy, the streaming services restricted to take screenshots, while apps like Telegram prevent screenshots of self-destructing messages. While all the reason of preventing screenshot may be valid, but you might still have legitimate reasons for bypassing these limits. You can still take screenshots anywhere you want.
Warning : If bypassing these limits violates that app’s terms of service, privacy policies, or applicable laws, you assume full responsibility for the consequences. So, always proceed with caution and ensure your actions should respect rules and regulations.
There are so many different methods for taking screenshots in apps that restrict them. Some methods work in most of the apps, but not all. Below are some methods that work in some cases.
1. Use Google Assistant
Some of the Android apps block screenshots only when you use the standard button combination on your phone. That means that you can bypass this restriction if you use any method other than pressing the power button and volume buttons to take a screenshot.
- Most Android phones have built-in Google Assistant app and its most prominent features are voice commands, that lets you capture screenshots without using the button combination of your phone.
- To take screenshot using Google assistant, open the app that you want to screenshot and activate Google Assistant. You can do this by voice commands saying Hey Google! or by holding the home key depending on your Android settings. You can either voice command by saying or type ‘Take a screenshot’ and Google Assistant will capture a screenshot.
But, unfortunately, this method has a low success rate. Apps with robust screenshot restrictions, like secure banking apps or Chrome’s Incognito mode usually produce a blank or black screen. If this method fails, try the next method below.
2. Record the Screen and Take a Screenshot
If traditional screenshot methods fail, then you can use this next method to take screenshot. Instead of taking screenshot, you can first record your screen and then extract the screenshot from the video. Most of Android phones have this built-in screen recording feature. If not then you can download a screen recorder app from Play Store.
- To use this method first enable the screen recorder on your phone. You can typically find this setting in the Quick Settings menu.
- Then, open the app and while using the app, you can start recording the screen you want to capture.
- Once recorded, you can play back the video of your screen recording and pause the video at the desired frame.
- Take the screenshot of the paused frame by using your phone’s button combination or you can use any other screenshot tool.
Just like Google Assistant, this method is not foolproof. This method can sometimes work, but some apps block screen recording, so you’ll have a better chance if you start the recording on the home screen. At the end the app might still show as blank in the recording.
3. Take Screenshots Using scrcpy
This is the ultimate method as it can bypass virtually any sort of screenshot restriction in Android apps. scrcpy is a lightweight screen mirroring program that lets you view and control your Android phone’s display on your PC. Once you mirror your Android phone’s screen on your computer, you can just simply use print screen or like Window’s Snipping Tool to take screenshots. scrcpy is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can install scrcpy with Homebrew on macOS. Check the scrcpy GitHub page for full instructions on installing scrcpy on Mac and Linux.
