The central government has given a big update regarding the more than 10 crore bank accounts of the country. The central government has said that KYC has to be done once again for more than 10 crore bank accounts in the country. This update is also important because if the KYC of these accounts is not updated then the bank account may also be closed.
What Kind of Updates have Come from the Government Regarding KYC?
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) Secretary, M. Nagaraju on Monday asked banks to adopt a new KYC process for Jan Dhan accounts which will be updated. “Pradhan Mantri Jandhan Yojana (PMJDY) was launched in 2014 and about 10.5 crore PMJDY accounts were opened between August, 2014 and December, 2014. Now these accounts have to be complete their re-KYC after 10 years” he added. However, till 28 August 2024, 53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in the country.
Nagaraju requested the banks to work with the same enthusiasm as when the PMJDY scheme was launched and not cause any inconvenience to the customers. He directed the banks to deploy additional staff where necessary to complete KYC again within a specified period.
