Recently the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has taken a big decision regarding badminton. The game will change completely after BWF’s decision. New Scoring System in Badminton will Implement Soon
Badminton World Federation (BWF) proposed a new scoring system in Malaysia in November 2024. Now badminton is played in three sets. In the coming days, play will continue as before in three sets, but the points will change. Earlier each set had 21 points. But now each set will have 15 points. Its biggest advantage will be that the game will now be shorter than before, which will provide more entertainment to the audience. Also, the chances of players getting injured will be reduced.
When will the New Scoring System be Implemented?
The big question now is when will the new scoring system be implemented? BWF made this proposal about three months ago. However, it will take some time to implement. It will be tested first and then the new scoring system will be implemented only after successful testing. However, it will be tested in Grade 3 tournaments, national tournaments, national and international leagues and continental championships.
It is said that the new scoring system will be tested from April 2025 to September-October 2025. The BWF can then decide to implement it from 2026 after talking to players, coaches and stakeholders and taking advice and feedback. Annual General Meeting will be held at that time.
By the way, originally this game was only 15 points. Despite this, the game lasted much longer than it does now. Its rules were even different then.
