Penalty for Late Payment

The driving license has to be renewed within 30 days of expiry. If you apply for renewal after 30 days, you will have to pay a penalty. The fee for renewal is Rs 400 within the stipulated period, but if you renew the license after one month of expiry, you may have to pay up to Rs 1500.

Cancellation of Driving Licence

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, a driving license in India is valid for only 40 years. After that you have to apply for renewal. After 40 years, driving license is valid for 10 years. After that it has to be renewed every 5 years. If you do not apply for renewal within one year of the expiry of the license, the driving license will be considered cancelled. After that, you have to go through the whole process again to get a driving license.
