‘Shein’ is Back in India! Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Retail Relaunched this Chinese Fashion App

Shein has been relaunched by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Retail. Reliance Retail, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, launched a dedicated Shein app five years ago under a licensing deal. According to Reuters, the app was re-launched in India on Saturday.

Shein was founded in China in 2012 and later headquartered in Singapore. The brand offers a vast selection of low-priced western clothes. Shein’s app was banned in India in 2020 alongside other Chinese apps such as ByteDance’s TikTok due to data security concerns, after a border dispute soured Indo-Chinese relations.

In 2020, there was a dispute between India and China over the incident of Galwan River valley. An average of 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in this incident. At that time, India had banned more than 50 Chinese apps. It also included fashion app Shein along with TikTok. Now this fashion app has come to India after 5 years.

Reliance last year entered into a partnership to relaunch Shein App in India. Some time ago, Reliance Retail tested Shein on its fashion brand Ajio app. Now Shein brand is back in India after being banned for 5 years.
