WTC Finals: ICC Punished New Zealand and England; England Eliminated From Final Race

New Zealand’s hopes of playing the World Test Championship final have suffered a major setback. ICC has penalized the kiwi team for slow over-rate in the Test against England. ICC has also deducted New Zealand’s WTC points along with match fee. New Zealand dropped to 5th place in the WTC points table after losing 3 points. Sri Lanka moved up to 4th place with 50% winning percentage points.

England have also been penalized for slow over rates. ICC has reduced 3 points of the team. However, as England have been eliminated from the WTC finals race, the impact of the points drop will not be as much on the team. But as New Zealand are in the final race, the drop in points has dealt a severe blow to the team.

The ICC has said that there is a new twist in the final of the ICC World Test Championship to be held at Lord’s next year. Because in the first Test played between New Zealand and England in Christchurch, both teams were penalized for slow over rates. The 15% match fee of both the teams is cut. Most importantly both teams have lost their 3 important points, said the ICC.

Good News for India as ICC Cut New Zealand’s Points

Currently, India is at No.1 in the WTC points table with 61.11 victory percentage points. New Zealand, which has scored 47.92 points, can score a maximum of 55.36 points in the current WTC cycle.The team will get such points if they win both Tests against England. England won the first test by 8 wickets. In WTC points table South Africa (59.26)is in 2nd position, Australia (57.26) in 3rd and Sri Lanka (50) is now on the 4th position.
