WPL 2023: Whole Schedule, Team Rosters, Live Streaming, Locations, And Ticket Information
The Women’s Premier League’s inaugural season will start on March 4 on Saturday. Smriti Mandhana, who signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for 3.4 crore, was the most expensive player at the first-ever WPL auction held in Mumbai last month. Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants (GG) paid 3.2 crore to acquire Australian superstar Ashleigh Gardner. At the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, the Giants will play the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians (MI).
Many of the competitors just competed in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, where Australia won the event by defeating the South African hosts to claim their sixth title. Natalie Sciver, an Englishwoman, will represent MI in the WPL; MI paid 3.2 crore for her in a bidding war. Delhi Capitals (DC) paid 2.2 crore to get Jemimah Rodrigues, who had an outstanding T20 World Cup.
In the league stage, all five franchises—MI, RCB, DC, GG, and UP Warriorz—will play four home games and four away games. The top three teams will advance to the next round following the league phase, where the table-topper will automatically advance to the championship. In the meantime, the third and fourth-placed teams will compete against one another in the Eliminator game for a spot in the championship.
